Should I include every job I've ever done?
Its important to be concise, so make the most of the work experience that you feel is most relevant to the job for which you are applying. Make sure you fully account for your experience - avoid leaving any gaps as these will need to be accounted for in the recruitment and referencing process. Our section on CV's will provide you with more details.
I am worried that I can't account for my career history in enough detail. Is this a problem?
Operational security and integrity are our number one priorities at Morgan Randall and with respect to this, we need to be fully satisfied of the work history, background and identification of all of our employees. For all roles you will need to fulfil our strict referencing and vetting procedures.
What information should be in my covering letter?
Keep it factual yet informative. Make sure you include the vacancy reference and where you saw the role advertised.
How long should my CV be?
Be concise. Make sure that all of the information you send in as part of your applications is relevant. Usually 2 pages is ideal. For some tips, we'll talk more about this in our section on CV's.
Will using coloured paper make my application stand out?
Plain white paper is fine. Its the content of your CV that counts and that’s what we will use when it comes to screening.
What is an assessment centre?
An Assessment Centre is a method for assessing the strengths and development needs of candidates. Our section on Interviews will help you learn what to expect.
What are ability tests?
There are lots of different kinds of tests but they measure specific skills and usually give candidates a score that gives an indication of existing ability or potential to learn skills required for the job. Such tests could include numerical and verbal reasoning.
What is personality profiling?
These are types of questionnaire designed to provide information on your typical behaviour within work situations. They give the employer an insight into how you see yourself that is not always available through interviews alone. There are lots of different kinds of test but they usually consist of a number of statements that you are asked to rate how strongly you agree or disagree with.
What is a Behavioural Interview?
At this kind of interview you will be asked to give specific examples of situations that you have been involved in and how you dealt with them. An example of this kind of question could be something like: Can you give me an example of a time when you worked well as part of a team?
What time should I arrive?
Our invitation to your interview will have all of the details about where your interview will be held, who to ask for when you arrive and what time to be there. Its always a good idea to be a little early so that you can start to do a bit of mental preparation or familiarise yourself with the location/facilities.
What should I wear?
That’s entirely up to you. We would recommend that you dress to impress but make sure you are comfortable in what you're wearing.
What kind of person are you looking for?
Here at Morgan Randall we are proud of our diversity and personality. We want our employees to bring their own personalities to work and to use them positively. By far the best advice is to be yourself. It will help you relax and allow you to focus on your interview. Remember to be fully honest as we carry out a number of background checks so anything you have not discussed at interview may well be uncovered at a later date.
